6 Legit Reasons Why Your Business Website Needs A Blog

Yep, I totally get it…
You’re super busy working on and in your business every single day! Where are you going to find the time to start blogging as well?

Maybe your thinking that;

  • you’re just not that keen on writing
  • you failed English at school so you’re not cut out for blogging or writing online
  • nobody wants to read your writing and you think you’d have nothing to write about anyway
  • or maybe you think your website looks and functions like a well-oiled Ferrari now so it will automatically attract you ideal customers so you don’t really need to start a blog.

But, despite all these reasons, you can and should start a blog on your business website! I pinky promise it will be worth it, even just once a week or even once a month! I swear blogging for business will help grow your business, position you as an expert in your field and take your website to the next level. Keep on reading and I’ll show you why…

Reason #1 – It’ll save you time in the long run!

Have you noticed your customers tend to ask you the same questions over and over?

Maybe you own and operate a home renovation business you might get customers asking about what brands of roofing you work with or what tiles would be best suited for an outdoor area. Or if you run whale watching tours customers might ask what time of the year is the best to see the whales or when the calmest weather conditions occur.

Instead of taking time out of your day to call the customer or writing another time consuming email that answers their questions you should write a blog post!  That way you could simply direct the customer to your fancy blog post which answers all their questions or, even better, the customer might find the blog post before they even ask the question which saves you precious time & money in the long run. Totally WIN, WIN!

Reason #2 – More Opportunities to be Discovered by your Target Audience

The more pages you have in your website, the more opportunity Google has to index your website for a wider range of searches. This, in turn generates more traffic to your website and you know what more traffic means… hopefully more enquiries and more sales!

However, I am not saying you should create a bunch of extra pages with nothing on them or write about topics that have nothing to do with your business. That really won’t work. You should aim for these extra pages to have valuable content about your industry and business, just like a blog post. With valuable content comes keywords which are the lifeblood of Google and helps to catapult your website to the golden 1st page of Google. WIN!

Reason #3 – It Gives You Precious Content to Share on Social Media

These days nearly every man and his dog are on social media so it is highly likely that your ideal customers hang out over on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter too. Now, I know what you are thinking… but I can just share my website on there and be done with it. Well, not really. How many times can you share your static business website on your Facebook page until your Facebook friends and fans get fed up with seeing the same thing over and over and ‘unlike’ your business page?

If you’ve written some valuable blog posts that help your potential and existing customers and answer common questions then you are providing them with value… everyone loves value and it tends to be a big hit on social media too. Once you are getting consistent engagement on social media, more people will see your posts, which in turn boosts traffic to your website and, as we said before; more traffic = more eyes on your products and services = more sales and enquiries!

Reason #4 – Another Way to Get in Touch With You

You may have noticed that there is a comment section below this blog post. This is common for most blog posts no matter the industry or website and provides another excellent opportunity for your target audience to get in touch with you. For one reason or another, your reader may have missed your contact us form or maybe they have another question related to your informative blog post. In any case… getting your target audience to engage with you and your business is always a good thing as it promotes trust and the opportunity for another customer in the future.

Reason #5 – More Networking Opportunities

Through sharing your latest business news and what you’ve been getting up to on your blog you can inadvertently reach out to other businesses in your particular industry and create networking opportunities.

Maybe you are a interior designer and you work with a particular supplier/brand of furniture that you loved. This would be an excellent time to give them a shoutout on your blog. It gives your potential customers a chance to research the brands you use and it will also give the furniture brand a little bit of extra exposure – which they will not doubt love. If you are lucky they might share your blog post through their social media channels and just look at that – more traffic to your website = greater possibility of sales and/or enquiries.

Reason #6 – Blogging increases your SEO Score so you become BFF’s with Google

As you produce more content, new pages are constantly being added to your website which equals more opportunities for your website to be indexed in Google. And we all know what that means – more traffic to your website = greater possibility of sales and/or enquiries!

If you are consistently posting new content the effects are even greater. Google is a very smart cookie and tracks when you add new content to your website. If you do this regularly, Google sees this and thinks… “This website is awesome and is always being updated so I’ll come back more often to see if there is new content to add to my index.” This means your new posts will be indexed quicker meaning that your traffic will find your posts sooner.

Backlinks are also very important in building your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) score. This is excellent news if you are regularly posting new content to your business blog. The more content you have the more opportunities you give other websites to link back to your blog posts. And, the more backlinks you build the better your SEO score becomes and the more attention Google gives your website.

Overall, there are a lot of fantastic benefits that you can tap into by simply posting helpful articles and blogging about your business and industry on your website. The sky is the limit!
